The Washington State Ferry system has let us down again.

May 21, 2024

There are normally two ferries running betweenen Mukilteo and Clinton, on Whidbey Island.

About 2:pm, one of the ferries fell out of service, so the Mukilteo-Clinton run was reduced to a single boat.

On our way to Whidbey from Seattle, we arrived in the Mukilteo waiting line at 3pm.

By 4:50pm we were in waiting line 6. With only a single ferry running, ferries departed only once an hour.

After the ferry’s next return to Mukilteo, the loading crew sent the lanes with more recently arrived lanes onto the ferry, leaving behind most of us who had been waiting in the holding for an hour or so or more. So we settled in for more waiting.

If the loading crew does not once again load newer arrivals, we will be on the 6:40pm ferry. Otherwise, we will be on the 7:35pm ferry, just four and one-half hours after getting in line.

Happy sailing!
